Why Takt 3D

A Real Print Farm,
Not a Middleman

Most online 3D printing platforms are brokers, they take your order and farm it out. We own our machines, run them in San Diego, and have the FDM expertise to back it up.

Large In-House FDM Farm

We run a significant fleet of FDM printers in-house. Multiple machines run simultaneously on your order, so quantity doesn't slow us down. Your order doesn't leave San Diego.

Next Day Turnaround

FDM parts are ready the next business day for most orders. Urgent San Diego pickups? Call us, same day is often possible for simpler jobs. No multi week waits, no guessing games.

San Diego, Local Pickup

Based at 7940 Silverton Ave in San Diego. Walk in, pick up same day, get parts inspected in person. No shipping wait, no FedEx delays, no damage risk for urgent deliveries.

Engineering Materials

PLA is for beginners. We stock PETG, ASA, ABS, TPU, PA6-CF carbon fiber, PC polycarbonate, ESD-safe PETG, and more. We'll recommend the right material for your mechanical requirements.

500mm Large Format

Single-piece prints up to 500 × 500 × 500 mm. For oversized parts, we print in precision-bonded sections that look and perform like a single piece. Most competitors cap at 250mm.

Years of FDM Expertise

We've been printing under 037 Designs for years. We know which settings prevent warping, how to dial in tolerances, and how to design for printability. This expertise only comes from running tens of thousands of parts.

Technology

FDM: Our Core Technology

We run a large in-house FDM farm in San Diego. Fast, versatile, and capable of engineering-grade thermoplastics from one part to thousands.

Our Primary Technology

Fused Deposition Modeling

FDM · Material Extrusion · Thermoplastic Filament

FDM is the backbone of our operation and for good reason. It's fast, versatile, handles engineering-grade thermoplastics, and scales from one part to thousands without changing the workflow. Our FDM farm runs around the clock, which is how we deliver next day parts consistently. From PLA to carbon-fiber nylon, we know FDM deeply.

What We Print

From Prototypes to
Production-Ready Parts

We print for every stage of product development, from first-concept mockups to functional end-use parts shipped to your customers.

Rapid Prototypes

Validate your design before committing to tooling. Get a physical part in your hands next day, test fit, form, and function before investing on injection molds or machining.

Concept models Fit checks Form studies

Functional End-Use Parts

Engineering-grade materials for parts that go into real products, PETG, ASA, PA6-CF, and polycarbonate. Parts that survive heat, impact, chemicals, and the real world.

Enclosures Brackets Housings

Jigs & Fixtures

Custom tooling for your production line. Jigs and fixtures are one of the best uses of 3D printing: unique geometry, complex shapes, and precise fit that would cost 10× more to machine.

Large Format Prints

Up to 500 × 500 × 500 mm as a single piece. Architecture models, industrial enclosures, full size concept models. For even larger. We section-print and precision-bond.

Display & Presentation Models

Trade show models, investor demos, product renders made physical. We use high-detail FDM settings for display quality, or painted FDM for large-scale visual models.

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

Most FDM orders are ready next business day. Upload your file, get an instant quote, and we start printing the same day for orders placed before our daily cutoff. San Diego locals can pick up in person — no shipping wait at all.
We accept STL, STEP, OBJ, and 3MF files. STL is the most common and works great. If you only have a STEP or native CAD file (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) that's fine too — just upload it and our system will handle the conversion.
PLA is great for prototypes and display models — affordable and easy to print. PETG offers better impact resistance and moisture tolerance, ideal for functional parts. ASA and ABS handle heat and UV well for outdoor or under-hood use. TPU is the go-to for flexible, rubber-like parts. Carbon fiber composites give you the best strength-to-weight ratio for demanding applications. Not sure? Tell us what your part needs to do and we'll recommend the best fit.
Our FDM printers handle parts up to 500 × 500 × 500 mm in a single run. Need something larger? We can section the model and bond the pieces together with near-seamless results — just let us know and we'll advise on the best split strategy for your geometry.
Yes. We offer sanding and surface smoothing, primer and paint finishing, support removal and cleanup, and hardware insertion (heat-set inserts, threaded inserts). If you need a specific finish or color, mention it in your order notes and we'll work with you on the details.
FDM typically holds ±0.2–0.5 mm dimensional accuracy depending on geometry and material. For most functional prototypes, enclosures, and brackets this is more than sufficient. If you need tighter tolerances on specific features (snap fits, press fits, bearing seats), add a note and we'll orient and slice accordingly to hit your critical dimensions.
Our instant quote tool requires a 3D file, but if you're still in the design phase or working from a sketch or drawing, reach out directly. Our CAD team can model your part from scratch and get you print-ready files quickly — then roll straight into production.
