Why Additive Manufacturing?

When 3D Printing Beats
Injection Molding

For most production runs under 10,000 identical parts, additive manufacturing is faster, cheaper, and more flexible, with no tooling risk.

No tooling investment

Injection molds cost $10K–$100K+ and take 6–16 weeks. With 3D printing there's no upfront tooling, you only pay per part.

Design iterations cost nothing extra

Need to tweak a feature between batches? Update the file and we re-run, no retooling, no NRE charges, no delay.

Multiple SKUs at same cost per part

Running 10 variants of 100 parts each? Cost per part stays the same. With injection molding, that's 10 separate molds at $10K+ each.

Bridge production while your mold is made

Ship real product to customers now while your injection mold is being manufactured, a strategy used by leading hardware startups worldwide.

Break-Even Point

~10,000 parts

Below ~10,000 identical parts, additive manufacturing
is almost always more economical than injection molding.

$10K–$100K mold cost · 6–16 week lead time · Design lock-in · One SKU per mold

$0 tooling · Fast turnaround · Iterate freely · Multi-SKU same batch

Right Process for Every Part

We match technology to application, not the other way around. Here's how each process performs at production scale.

Most Economical

Fused Deposition Modeling

FDM · Material Extrusion

The workhorse of production 3D printing. Best for high-volume functional parts, large components, and anything where cost efficiency matters most. Supports engineering-grade materials like ASA, PETG, ABS, and carbon-fiber composites.

What's Included

Full Service, Not Just Printing

Every production order comes with engineering support, quality control, and post-processing, not just raw parts off the machine.

DFM File Review

Before we print a single part, our engineers review your files for Design for Manufacturability: catching wall thickness, tolerance, and geometry issues that would cause failures at scale.

Every order

Material Recommendation

Not sure which material survives your use case? We recommend the right material based on mechanical load, temperature, UV exposure, and chemical resistance, from PLA to carbon-fiber composites.

Every order

Quality Inspection

Every batch is visually and dimensionally inspected before shipment. Defective or out-of-tolerance parts are re-printed. No charge. We ship right, or we re-ship it.

Every order

Post-Processing

Raw parts aren't always production-ready. We offer sanding, painting, hardware inserts, and support removal so parts arrive ready for assembly or packaging.

On request

Consolidated Delivery

Large orders are batched and shipped together, reducing packaging waste and cost. Local San Diego customers can pick up same day. We ship nationwide via FedEx and UPS.

Every order

Dedicated Support

Every production order has a point of contact, not a ticket system. For recurring orders or ongoing programs, we assign a dedicated team member who knows your product.

FAQ

Common Questions

We handle runs from a single prototype all the way to 10,000+ parts. For very high volumes, we'll recommend the right technology mix and may phase delivery across multiple batches to maintain quality and keep lead times predictable.
Injection molding requires expensive tooling ($10K–$100K+) and 6–16 weeks of lead time before you see a single part. 3D printing has zero tooling costs and ships in days. Research shows the break-even point is around 10,000 identical parts, below that, additive manufacturing is almost always more economical. And if you need multiple variants, additive wins by a much wider margin since each injection mold variant requires its own expensive tool.
Bridge production means using 3D printing to manufacture parts while your injection mold is being made, a process that typically takes 3–6 months. Instead of waiting empty-handed, you can ship real product to customers, validate your design in the market, and generate revenue before your tooling is ready. It's widely used by hardware startups and established OEMs alike.
For production-grade functional parts we typically recommend PA12 Nylon (via FDM) for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and strong mechanical properties. PETG is a great choice for impact resistance and moisture resistance. ASA is preferred for outdoor and UV-exposed applications. For flexible parts, we use TPU. For extreme environments, carbon-fiber composites and polycarbonate blends handle high temperatures and structural loads. We'll make a specific recommendation after reviewing your use case.
Yes. We offer sanding, spray painting, and surface finishing for FDM parts.
