PAHT-CF 3D Printing — High-Temperature Carbon-Fiber Nylon

PAHT-CF is carbon-fiber-reinforced high-temperature nylon — 115 MPa tensile at 190°C HDT, and tougher on impact than PA6-CF. $0.140/cm³ at 4.0× PLA. Hardened nozzle and dried spool required.

When to choose PAHT-CF

PAHT-CF is the right pick when a carbon-fiber nylon part has to survive both heat and impact. Under-hood automotive brackets, engine-bay ducting, sterilizable and autoclave-cycled fixtures, motorsport mounts, powder-coat oven tooling, and structural parts that get knocked around at temperature.

When to pick something else

Skip PAHT-CF if PA6-CF already clears your service temperature — it is ~15% more expensive for a modest HDT gain. Skip for cosmetic surfaces (fibers show through) and for anything transparent. If the part sees strong solvents, acids, or continuous service above 190°C, step up to PPS-CF.

PAHT-CF Properties & Datasheet

Verified against manufacturer datasheets and our own print testing at the San Diego shop.

Tensile strength115 MPaSlightly under PA6-CF, but holds it at higher temperature
Heat deflection190 °CHighest-HDT nylon we run; clears autoclave and engine-bay duty
Young's modulus~7 GPaStiff, but deliberately less brittle than PA6-CF
Impact resistanceGoodThe reason to pick it over PA6-CF — it absorbs shock instead of cracking
Chemical resistanceExcellentOils, coolants, greases, most automotive fluids
Moisture sensitivityVery highRequires dry spool + conditioned chamber; we always dry
Nozzle wearExtremeRequires hardened steel / tungsten nozzle
Surface finishMatte, texturedCF fibers visible; machining smooths it

DESIGN TIPS

Designing for PAHT-CF

  • 01Design for anisotropy: like every CF nylon, PAHT-CF is much stronger in the print plane (XY) than in Z.
  • 02Walls: 2mm+ for structural parts — the carbon fill reinforces but does not replace cross-section.
  • 03Threaded inserts: heat-set inserts grip extremely well; ideal for M3/M4 fasteners.
  • 04It tolerates post-print machining cleanly and holds ±0.05mm.
  • 05Dry it, keep it dry: nylon that has absorbed moisture prints porous and loses much of its published strength.

PAHT-CF FAQ

How much does PAHT-CF 3D printing cost?+
As a concrete example, our reference 7.8 cm³ bracket (50×30×40 mm) prints in PAHT-CF at $11.50 per part at standard quality and infill — that's the exact number our instant quote engine produces for that geometry. The material rate is $0.140/cm³ (4× PLA); quotes also include machine time, and orders have a $20 minimum. Upload your file for an exact price in seconds.
What is PAHT-CF best for?+
PAHT-CF is the right pick when a carbon-fiber nylon part has to survive both heat and impact. Under-hood automotive brackets, engine-bay ducting, sterilizable and autoclave-cycled fixtures, motorsport mounts, powder-coat oven tooling, and structural parts that get knocked around at temperature.
When should I NOT use PAHT-CF?+
Skip PAHT-CF if PA6-CF already clears your service temperature — it is ~15% more expensive for a modest HDT gain. Skip for cosmetic surfaces (fibers show through) and for anything transparent. If the part sees strong solvents, acids, or continuous service above 190°C, step up to PPS-CF.
What does TAKT 3D's PAHT-CF print setup require?+
Hardened steel (or tungsten) nozzle, high-temp hotend, heated chamber, and dried spool required — the same demanding setup as PA6-CF, run hotter. All of our PAHT-CF jobs use filament dried the same day to avoid moisture-induced defects, and every spool is logged against the part batch for traceability.
How long is PAHT-CF 3D printing turnaround?+
Standard turnaround for PAHT-CF is 5–7 business days. Expedited (3 days) adds 30%; rush (1–2 days) adds 60%. On rush, small PAHT-CF orders can ship inside 48 hours from our San Diego shop.
