PPS-CF 3D Printing — Our Highest-Performance Filament

PPS-CF is carbon-fiber-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide — 250°C HDT, inherently flame retardant, and chemically inert against fuels, acids, and solvents. $0.228/cm³ at 6.5× PLA, the top of the TAKT 3D catalog.

Reference: 7.8 cm³ bracket (50×30×40 mm) at standard quality & infill, priced by the same engine as the quote tool. Material rate $0.228/cm³; quotes include machine time. $20 order minimum.

When to choose PPS-CF

PPS-CF is the right pick when nothing else survives the environment. Chemical-handling components, fuel- and coolant-contact parts, semiconductor and wet-bench tooling, downhole and industrial sensor housings, parts under continuous high heat, and metal replacement where flame retardance is a requirement.

When to pick something else

Skip PPS-CF unless the application genuinely needs it — at 6.5× PLA it is the most expensive material we run, and PA6-CF or PAHT-CF covers most high-performance jobs at a third to a half the price. Skip for cosmetic parts, for anything transparent, and for very large flat geometry where its shrinkage fights you.

PPS-CF Properties & Datasheet

Verified against manufacturer datasheets and our own print testing at the San Diego shop.

Tensile strength120 MPaComparable to PA6-CF, but it keeps it far hotter
Heat deflection250 °CHighest in our catalog; continuous service near 200°C
Young's modulus~11 GPaThe stiffest material we print
Chemical resistanceNear-totalNo known solvent below 200°C; fuels, acids, bases
Flame retardanceInherent (UL94 V-0 class)No additives — it is the polymer itself
Moisture sensitivityLowUnlike nylon, PPS barely absorbs water
Warp / shrinkageHighNeeds a hot chamber; large flat parts are the hard case
Nozzle wearExtremeRequires hardened steel / tungsten nozzle

DESIGN TIPS

Designing for PPS-CF

  • 01Expect shrinkage: hold tight tolerances by machining after printing rather than printing to size.
  • 02Keep large flat spans off the design if you can — tall, compact geometry prints far more reliably.
  • 03Generous fillets at every stress riser; the carbon fill makes it stiff, not forgiving.
  • 04Design for anisotropy — orient the load path in the print plane (XY).
  • 05Heat-set inserts work, but mechanical fasteners into machined threads are the stronger option here.

PPS-CF FAQ

How much does PPS-CF 3D printing cost?+
As a concrete example, our reference 7.8 cm³ bracket (50×30×40 mm) prints in PPS-CF at $14.38 per part at standard quality and infill — that's the exact number our instant quote engine produces for that geometry. The material rate is $0.228/cm³ (6.5× PLA); quotes also include machine time, and orders have a $20 minimum. Upload your file for an exact price in seconds.
What is PPS-CF best for?+
PPS-CF is the right pick when nothing else survives the environment. Chemical-handling components, fuel- and coolant-contact parts, semiconductor and wet-bench tooling, downhole and industrial sensor housings, parts under continuous high heat, and metal replacement where flame retardance is a requirement.
When should I NOT use PPS-CF?+
Skip PPS-CF unless the application genuinely needs it — at 6.5× PLA it is the most expensive material we run, and PA6-CF or PAHT-CF covers most high-performance jobs at a third to a half the price. Skip for cosmetic parts, for anything transparent, and for very large flat geometry where its shrinkage fights you.
What does TAKT 3D's PPS-CF print setup require?+
The most demanding setup we run: hardened steel (or tungsten) nozzle, very high-temp hotend, and an actively heated chamber. Lead times run longer than the rest of the catalog — talk to us before committing a design to PPS-CF. All of our PPS-CF jobs use filament dried the same day to avoid moisture-induced defects, and every spool is logged against the part batch for traceability.
How long is PPS-CF 3D printing turnaround?+
Standard turnaround for PPS-CF is 5–7 business days. Expedited (3 days) adds 30%; rush (1–2 days) adds 60%. On rush, small PPS-CF orders can ship inside 48 hours from our San Diego shop.
